yogasthaḥ kuru karmāṇi saṅgaṃ tyaktvā dhanañjaya | siddhyasiddhyoḥ samo bhūtvā samatvaṃ yoga ucyate ||
Sanskrit / Transliteration

TRANSLATION

Perform your duty equipoised, O Arjuna, abandoning all attachment to success or failure. Such equanimity is called yoga.

EXPLANATION

This verse gives us the Gita's definition of yoga: samatvam — evenness of mind. Yoga is not a physical posture but a mental state. When you act without being pulled toward success or crushed by failure, you are in yoga. This is the practical meaning of karma yoga.
