BG 2.11

You grieve for those who should not be grieved for, while speaking words of wisdom. The wise grieve neither for the living nor the dead.
aśocyān anvaśocas tvaṃ prajñāvādāṃś ca bhāṣase | gatāsūn agatāsūṃś ca nānuśocanti paṇḍitāḥ ||
Sanskrit / Transliteration

TRANSLATION

You grieve over those who should not be grieved for, yet you speak words of wisdom. The wise grieve neither for the living nor for the dead.

EXPLANATION

Krishna's first direct teaching begins here. Arjuna is applying worldly reasoning to a situation that requires higher understanding. The wise person transcends grief by understanding the eternal nature of the soul.
