Krishna speaks to the grief-stricken Arjuna, whose eyes are filled with tears.
taṃ tathā kṛpayāviṣṭam aśrupūrṇākulekṣaṇam | viṣīdantam idaṃ vākyam uvāca madhusūdanaḥ ||
Sanskrit / Transliteration

TRANSLATION

To him who was thus overwhelmed with compassion and despondent, with eyes full of tears and agitated, Madhusudana (Krishna) spoke these words.

EXPLANATION

This verse sets the stage for the entire Gita. Arjuna, the greatest warrior, sits in grief. Krishna will now deliver the teaching that transforms despair into clarity.
