The 18 Rooms
Arjuna kneels at the entrance, arrows scattered on the floor. Grief is the image.
Chapter 1 →A vast library of eternal knowledge. The soul (atman) is an indestructible book no fire can burn.
Chapter 2 →The kitchen is always busy — action never stops. The cook offers each dish as yajna.
Chapter 3 →Portraits of teachers passing knowledge down through ages. Krishna at the center.
Chapter 4 →A gardener works without caring which fruit falls and which stays. Pure karma yoga.
Chapter 5 →A still room at the center of the palace. The meditator sits like a candle in a windless place.
Chapter 6 →Looking at stars — Krishna as the source behind all phenomena. Maya is the clouds.
Chapter 7 →The moment of death — what you think of at the last moment determines your next state.
Chapter 8 →Infinite rooms, each containing a different divine expression. 'I am the Ganga of rivers.'
Chapter 10 →Infinite reflections of Krishna's Universal Form — Arjuna sees past, present, future at once.
Chapter 11 →The devotee praying. 12 qualities of the beloved devotee inscribed on the wall.
Chapter 12 →The field (body/world) below; the knower (soul) watching from the tower above.
Chapter 13 →Three vats: black (tamas), red (rajas), white (sattva). Everything gets dyed by one of them.
Chapter 14 →The upside-down banyan tree — roots above, branches below. Cut it with the axe of non-attachment.
Chapter 15 →Two doors: one golden (daivi sampad), one dark (asuri sampad). Choose wisely.
Chapter 16 →Three tables for sattvic, rajasic, and tamasic food, worship, and charity.
Chapter 17 →The final teaching: abandon all, surrender. Walk out of the palace transformed.
Chapter 18 →
